_____: The Musical

Review

What happens when you mix mad libs with musical theatre? You get ____________: The Musical, a hilarious take on classical musical theatre. The show starts with the teacher, Ms. Kennedy, giving the classroom—or rather the audience—a brief run down of the parts of speech—noun, verb, adjective, adverb. From there, the show descends into a raunchy, laugh-filled musical adventure. Over the course of the show, Ms. Kennedy asks the audience for words. On the spot, the cast members rewrite the audience’s choices into classical musical numbers like "Diamonds are a Girls Best Friend" and "Tomorrow," creating a laugh-out-loud set of songs. The cast does an amazing job of getting the audience involved, playing up the classroom feeling from the beginning—the cast sits around in the “classroom” chatting with the audience and waiting for the teacher to walk in. More than once the audience was jokingly scolded, in teacher-esque fashion, for speaking out of line. Some of the vocals could have been stronger, and the show very much relies on audience participation, but with a good set of people, ____________: The Musical is a fantastic song-filled trip back to high school.
