A Feebleminded Dictator

Review

Presented by Three Gallows Theatre, this piece was told mostly through shadows and was hilarious in its own right. The story is told from behind three screens, which are lit up from behind and project the actors perfectly for the audience. It’s about three women with a lust for power, freedom and vanity. However one of them goes way too far. Kate Tobie (Mum) serves us a delightfully almost-ghoulish performance as the clear matriarch over her two subordinates, Brittny Rebhuhn (Mouse) and Erin Johnston (Mantis), who also please with their spectral antics. The shadow play in this show is second to none; the technicians seemed to spare no expense to display this technique when it came to telling a story through ominous shadows.  Coloured props were also used to entertain the eyes of the audience and help push the tale. A brilliant show if you’re not afraid of the dark.  —Pierre Royal
