Bad Habits

Review

This absurdist and inconsistent odd-couple comedy follows a devout nun, Sister Francis, attempting to train young millennial nun-to-be, Margerine Tubs, in the ways of the lord Jesus Christ. At its best moments this two-man show uses quick-witted punnery, choreographed dance numbers, and hover board-based physical comedy to delight its audience as they combat the temptations of a petulant, childish Satan. Margerine’s brash but well meaning millennial sensibilities juxtapose Francis’ old-school religious doctrines in ways that are often delightfully cringe-y. But in between these bright spots there are also needless dream sequences about penguin mating rituals and an unabashed willingness to shatter the fourth wall to the point of obnoxiousness. What results is an uneven presentation marred by technical difficulties and the obvious lack of real direction, making it something of an acquired taste. -Ramin Ostad

Hahaha the stars on this review are a typo! This reads as a 4.54321789 star review (until the but)! But but but not all Butterballs get it, get it Ramins noodle? Sometimes such perfectly purposefully asymmetrical non-obnoxious-just-relax-geeeeeeez is a thing, see… maybe it’s a hip happening hoverboard hooha of wahoo experimenting with the mentalities of expekfekkingtationz in tha Theeeeateeerrrrrz? Maybe? Just a geuss. Keep ’em geuss sisters… don’t let a lame devils duh-details soil the pretty great first part of this Quatragazillion Star review… or your fun!!! It was and is a delight, and I keep meeting people who’ve seen it and truly enjoyed it!

Bad Habits is a wonderful piece of theatre. David and Amica are extremely talented performers; not only did they have me laughing hysterically, but their hover board acrobatics were so impressive that I burst into applause multiple points throughout the show. The penguin mating scene was stupendous; so creative and funny! You will not be disappointed with this show.

I’ve seen Bad Habits in two cities this summer and it never disappoints. Amica and David had me laughing throughout the show both times. After watching their other physical comedy shows it has been incredible to watch this comedic endeavor. It might not be what you’re used to seeing them in, but I like risk takers. And they are successful risk takers.
