Bend in the Road

Review

It gives me no pleasure to review Bend In the Road, showing at Holy Trinity Church for this year's fringe. You can see they tried. They really, really tried. The play is set in a small Canadian town where everyone knows everyone, and which also happens to be on the path of the soon-to-be-built city road. Unlikely alliances form to flesh out the somewhat relatable but trite plot. While the lack of experience of the actors is palpable, it is obvious they do their very best to carry the stale dialogue, and succeed at connecting with the audience. That, unfortunately, will not save the spectator from the awkwardness of the delivery and the predictability of the ending. Reviewed by Erika Ampudia.
