Best Picture

Review

The cast of Best Picture is on a mission to parody all 86 films that have won an Academy Award for Best Picture in one hour. A nearly insurmountable task, but it’s not referencing all 86 movies that’s the problem, it’s that not everyone has seen all 86 movies. There’s basically three waves of laughter from the audience—those who understand a good Bridge on the River Kwai joke, those that giggled when they summarized the entire plot of Kramer vs. Kramer and those that immediately recognized the music from Slumdog Millionaire. Which left long lag times where certain people didn’t understand the punch line. It was clear this cast could engage an audience—especially when the joke was on them, not a film—but perhaps Best Picture is not the greatest vehicle for their talents. —Kathleen Bell

Really? Two stars because YOU didn’t understand the references? The show I saw had killer impressions and fantastic physical comedy, performed by three polished performers. Sure, I’ll admit that I didn’t understand all the references, but others did…and I think that’s the point.
