A man eating a banana and a man-eating banana. An awkward encounter at a funeral. Over-sharing over campfire songs. These are just a few of the sketches from Edmonton's latest comedy troupe, Grindstone Theatre. These fine comedians are building a solid reputation, and they continue to explore the surreal and the mundane with their own unique twist in this incarnation. While some sketches work better than others—such is the nature of sketch comedy—there are delightful moments with some great genuine laughs. There's lots of fun to be had here, and as this troupe grows in experience and confidence, it will just keep getting better and better. —Marliss Weber

It was pretty good but there were a lot of scenes with no laughter from the crowd. The Banana skits wer probably the best part of the show. I really enjoyed the final scene though, that made it worth the price of admission.
Not the best show I’ve seen but it wasn’t bad.
Worth checking out but not if you are only able to see a few shows this year.

This show was quite treadful. Don’t bother. Very predictable, cheesy and judging from the audience, NOT funny.

Caught this one on Sunday. The audience was hysteric in some moments and in others, you could feel laughter bubbling up all over the room. There were 1-2 cringe worthy moments but those are the same ones I’ve been laughing about still haha. One of the funniest shows I’ve seen so far, one week left though.

before, and I’ll say it again here: as parents, we are so conditioned to think solely about what is NOT permissible to send that we often don’t give enough attention to what SHOULD be sent. And that goes for educators as well. In making policies about what to avoid, there should also be attention given to policies that encourage GOOD choices.

I LOVED IT! Im not sure how the crowd was on your night, but we were part of a full room in hysterics the whole show. We had a great time, enjoying some serious parts with a ton of awesome interludes and distractions. Well done!

I really like your writing style, excellent info, appreciate it for putting up . “God save me from my friends. I can protect myself from my enemies.” by Claude Louis Hector de Villars.

Caught the Friday night show after reading the Journals review (4 stars) and it was awesome, crowd was in stitches. Had a few friends catch the early Saturday show and heard it was a little slower. I haven’t seen sketch done like this before, wasn’t a fan of everything but the ones that hit were great! Would definitely recommend!

The show is great! Its an interactive sketch show, with some narrative and straight up absurdist style sketches. Between the comical dance numbers, to the hilariously unsettling visit from a banana-man, it is a super engaging show. The show is rich with many musical elements and talented singers – bad ass rapping included.

This is a great little show to check out in the cozy El Cortez space, a perfect spot to grab a drink and watch the show!

Saw show last night and had a great time. Very entertaining evening with lots of laughs.
    Well worth the ticket price.

Very, very clever – felt like we were in the front row at Saturday Night Live! The skits were awesome and incredibly well written. There was tons of variety with funniness that appealed to everyone, yet they managed to keep it all cohesive. Wasn’t sure what to expect of the venue or the time slot being that it was on a Sunday night at a bar – but it was essentially sold out! The venue was very trendy – the stage is on the lower floor of Edmonton’s newest hot spot, El Cortez. You access the show by going down a little spiral staircase – so cool! Get there as early as possible for the best seats as it fills up almost instantaneously once the doors open.

A MUST SEE! Great theme with perfect interludes and awkward moments. Congrats to the actors, director and team. Also, as you read the thread there is only one review that isn’t still laughing about the show. If you like comedy with a hint of reality, this is perfect. …also watch for the #tacodance and other amazing moments. Thanks again!

The jokes were probably more miss than hit, but some of the skits had moments of true magic – especially when they pulled a few audience members into the fray.

Venue wasn’t very nice on Thursday night, as a lot of bar noise filtered down the stairs making it very hard to hear.

Do not miss it!! They will have you laughing from start to finish!

Great show. Some type of comedy for everyone – some deadpan, some slapstick, some raunch. Well executed. Venue is small and can make the stage hard to see at times, but certainly better suited to the smaller stage than larger.
    Looking forward to more.
