Bushtits, Shih Tzus & Private Dicks: All’s Fur in Love & Noir

Review

The line between underachieving loserdom and film noir blur when Lester, a lowly Dollar Shed employee, acquires a hat worn by Dana Andrews in the 1944 film noir classic Laura, only to discover that wearing it transforms him into a confident, hard boiled detective. Part Sam Spade, part Willy Loman, Lester’s dual persona stumbles upon a case of missing and deceased pets, which he is determined to solve. Co-written and performed by Melissa Dorsey and Trevor Matheson, this play is a fast-paced, wisecracking comedy that faithfully honours a suite of film noir themes and tropes. Although the plot is occasionally hard to follow through a bottleneck of set changes and characters, it never loses its charm and is ultimately a delight. - Travis Grant

Bushtits was hilarious! Very clever use of props and minimum costumes changes to let us know which character was which! It was our favourite at the Calgary Fringe and we saw 10, many which were excellent!

OH this show is BRILLIANT! The characters are well developed, the prop usage and character changes are amazing, and the ridiculousness of the story left me wanting them to have a youtube channel. You need this show in your life.

My husband and I went from The Real Inspector Hound to this show and anyone who’s fringing this year has seen and knows the amazing that was Hound so coming into this I was nervous but it blew me away and back again and I can honestly say I preferred this show. It was genuine and hilarious and fantastic fourth wall breaks and two actors working their butts and off and acting their hearts out because it’s what they love. I completely believed them both in every crazy role and situation they were in and I could watch this play again. I’ll be keeping my eye out for these two in the future and I look forward to seeing what else they can do.
They were charming, genuine and hilarious. A must see for Fringe 2018.

You know when you see someone who can tap dance, and they’re hustling and moving like there’s no tomorrow? That’s the energy in this show. Theatrically Obsessed leaves nothing behind, and Bushtits is a spectacular send-up of noir with the zaniest kind of theatre making. They earn every cent of the ticket price and deliver a show full of laughs, surprises, and a satisfying who-dun-it. Time flies when you’re having fun and I couldn’t believe it went by so fast!
