Crookback

Review

In this 80-minute, one-man adaptation of Shakespeare's Richard III, creator and performer Tim Welham accomplishes an impressive feat of theatrical maneuvering, flitting between nearly a dozen different key characters and leaping through the complex historical plot of the play at a record pace. While some of his female roles are difficult to tell apart from one another, the story is still remarkably cohesive, entertaining and easy to follow, even for audience members who are less than familiar with the source material. Once the initial confusion of who's who wears off, Welham single-handedly conjures an excellent staging of one of Shakespeare's greatest villains. —Brad Kennedy

Crookback is a tour-de-force of acting by Canadian Tim Welham. He shape-shifts into the different roles with aplomb and really enjoys sinking his teeth into this play. You will want to dig deeper into the original Shakespeare after seeing this!
