Death —A Romantic Comedy

Review

Rob Gee’s solo rambles about life, love, and drinking were hardly inspired. The characters that he displays within the show are confusing to follow and quite frankly unfunny. Gee's goal felt that he needed the audience to experience some form of self enlightenment while attempting humour. For this he fell woefully short. Perhaps it is the subject matter that left some audience members with a bad taste in their mouths. It seemed as if Gee has dropped the ball compared to his usual hit work at past Fringe festivals. To me, there was nothing about the show that was worthwhile. By the end of the show, this reviewer just wanted to watch the man rest. There was nothing romantic in my eyes about this production. - Pierre Royal

I respectfully vehemently disagree with the official reviewer for this show. “Death” is a fantastic tour de force! Rob Gee’s shows are a pleasure to experience and this is no exception. This show brings such joy to the difficult topic of death. I also appreciated how he showcased so many different ways humans can experience love – and yes, I had many bouts of laughter throughout! This is a bit of a wild ride that jumps around in the story, but rest-assured… it all ties together in the most beautiful and delightful way. Just stick with him and keep your mind ready. I promise it’s worth it.

I also would like to respond to this particularly scathing review — this seems awfully harsh for such an accomplished performer as Rob Gee. His shows are always excellent and this one is no exception. Keep up, pay attention, and listen to the lyrically riffs and rhymes, the characters, and the anecdotes and you will enjoy his show. Not as comprehensive as some of his other shows from previous years, but he is still a fantastic person to spend an hour with listening to his stories. Thanks, for coming back to Edmonton Mr. Gee, thoroughly enjoyed your show… BTW He is the kind of guy you would love to have a beer with to share a laugh.
