Every Story Ever Told

Review

It would be terrific if Every Story Ever Told started as strong as it ends. Sadly, the first 30 minutes are more of a middling standup routine when compared to the genuine story-craft that comprises the final minutes of the show. It’s comedy for those who think Jeff Dunham is too edgy. The plot of Charlie Chaplin’s 1937 classic ‘City Lights’ is retold without even a fraction of the charm or wit that makes that movie so iconic and beloved. It seems earnest and sincere, but the decision to adapt a silent movie into a five-minute bit for a one-man stage show perhaps required reconsideration. All the same, Every Story Ever Told has some heart, predominantly in those condensed Grimm fairy tales, but it takes a while to get there.  A punchline suffers when the setup is boring.   – Lucas Provencher
