Flute Loops

Performer and writer Devon More puts her excellent musicianship front and centre of her solo show, Flute Loops. At the start of the show, More acts as a quantum physics student/merch table girl for a band she can’t find, and frantically tries to keep the audience entertained with her quirky behaviour and scientific ramblings—thus leading to her being the sole star of the show. A multi-instrumentalist, More combines her talents with humorous banter that she occasionally turns into poetry/rap or songs that are performed over her self-created beat loops. She uses the flute, multiple guitars, a xylophone, and her own singing voice to make both acoustic-leaning and heavily produced songs. It’s a fun process to watch. More’s music outshines most other aspects of the show however, which leaves me wishing I was at her concert rather than seeing a mixed bag of acting, comedy, and musical performance. Regardless, Flute Loops will have music lovers tapping their feet the whole way through. -Heather Gunn

    America Bearanovsky

    boy, is More talented
but this was sixty minutes of raw craft falling flat on its face
the oscillation between highbrow technobabble and dick jokes was measured yet dead-stale by the end
the eponymous gimmick is interesting, a flourish that doesn’t detract or distract from the show
unfortunately, I could have used a distraction from the clumsily shoehorned existential moral
Watch it? no, though it is bearable enough to kill an hour just fine
less More; bring on The Flute Loops
