On a road trip to Calgary, recent immigrants from the Middle East almost kill a divorce lawyer in a car accident of some kind—an incident the play never explains in a sensible way. This potentially light-hearted, sitcom-style story moves further into the realm of the improbable as the lawyer—who’s practice is failing—spends the show trying to convince the couple to divorce. What could be a hilarious performance from Amena Shehab as the wife Samar is undercut by a lazy script that relies on most of her jokes centring on how she mispronounces English words. Similarly, it’s difficult to believe the story as Madonna Gonzalez (as Tina) acts more like an irresponsible teenager than the 35-year-old lawyer she’s supposed to embody. This overall cute story earned many chuckles from the audience, and may be best enjoyed if you don’t take it seriously at all. – Matthew Stepanic
