“Get Me the F#uck Out of Edmonton!” – and other ramblings of a fringe has-been

Review

Wes Borg’s legacy as a fringe performer is well-documented. But, that doesn't mean you have to remember his Three Dead Trolls in a Baggie comedy troupe to enjoy the show. If you’ve spent any time living in Edmonton, or even around Canada, the half-true tales Borg spins with the power of song resonate in a humorous way. He swaps between a keyboard, guitar and accordion, while singing a mile-a-minute with various accents and affectations. Featuring songs about delivering papers in the winter as a child, driving across the country in the RV he “legally” married in B.C., relationship struggles etc., are each buoyed by his veteran stage presence. His interludes play the crowd in a way that makes it impossible not to smile. It wasn’t until Borg’s act stumbled a little in its finale that I realized my face was sore from grinning for so long, but the misstep isn't enough to detract from the rest of the structured concert. You’re likely to leave the theatre with a feeling of pleasant nostalgia after this musical jaunt down memory lane. Reviewed by Kevin Pennyfeather.
