Gigantic Lying Mouth

Review

Gigantic Lying Mouth transports you to the afterlife in a series of spoken word confessions from Scottish poet, Kevin J. Gilday. After a tragic yoga fall, Gilday wakes up in the afterlife. He gets a call from Lazarus, the “worst guardian angel ever,” who is there to help him on his journey. Gilday declares he has unfinished business. He makes a deal with Lazarus to go to purgatory in exchange for finishing his masterpiece, but first he is forced to atone for his sins. Gilday moves between the story and spoken word breaks with ease, reflecting on lies, lust, ego, violence, and more. There’s plenty of laughs, but some of the poetic breaks leave you wondering how they relate to the big picture. Gilday is a talented wordsmith whose use of language and rhythmic delivery is impressive. For those of you who enjoy performance poetry, you won’t be disappointed. Reviewed by Kristy DeSmit.
