Guys in Disguise Classic: The Broads of Broadway

Review

Belting the final notes of “I Am What I Am,” the big number from La Cage aux Folles, Chris Peterson achieves perfection in his most recent take on drag, The Broads of Broadway. Running the drag queen gamut, Chris shifts seamlessly between characters (as well some elaborate costumes) delivering some delightfully camp impressions of Broadway “Eyecons” [sic] singing songs from splashy musicals they never appeared in. Despite the overall lighthearted nature of the show, Peterson treats his subjects with a great deal of love and care—from Bette Davis reciting excerpts from The Vagina Monologues to an uncanny Carol Channing (his best work the whole evening). Peppered with saucy tales from his life on and off (and off-off-off) Broadway, Broads is a must-see for any fringer—sluts and virgins alike. Reviewed by Buchanan Hunter.
