Hip. Bang! presents Fin

Review

Prop comedy is a form of performance that can fall to the wayside; more often than not one can feel underwhelmed when seeing a show with numerous comedic props and little jokes. Comedy duo Hip.Bang! has found a way to work around this by building a story around a small town while utilizing a specific prop, water jugs. Hip.Bang! presents Fin is a fun romp through a small town’s efforts as they deal with an impending apocalypse. Looming threats approach the town such as lizard people, aquatic monsters and gun wielding chickens. Tom Hill and Devin Mackenzie steer the mayhem as they demonstrate a keen ability to create whacky characters and weave together a loose narrative. With each joke, the stage gets more and more soaked as water jugs, water bottles and even milk splashes around with each punch line. Yet as they water and grow their characters on stage the plot and pacing remain thirsty. The recurring characters often overstay their welcome and the loose narrative unravels long before the show reaches its conclusion. Hip.Bang! presents Fin is fun for the first twenty minutes but the laughs dry up a little too quickly. Reviewed by Jake Pesaruk.
