HUNKS

Review

There is a unique sensation when you witness a group of people effortlessly play off of each other, and this is what HUNKS brings to the Edmonton Fringe. Initially starting off in familiar territory in its sketch comedy approach, HUNKS derails into the obscure and relentlessly hilarious. The Winnipeg-based troupe brings an energy that doesn’t quit, with each sketch starting with a gradual build that eventually has the audience screeching with laughter. Every joke that HUNKS delivers sticks, displaying a wide range of style utilizing improvisation, dance and song. Tim Gray, Quinn Greene, Matt Nightingale and Dana Smith bring a type of comedy that feels immensely accessible and, if anything, their visible friendship on stage strengthens every joke. Demonstrating concise writing and pacing, HUNKS isn’t afraid to go into territory that is risky, with the result being expertly crafted humour that doesn’t give the audience a chance to catch a breath.
