Il Duo: World Tour

Review

Comedy double acts are sometimes a dime-a-dozen at the Fringe, but comedy double acts with a background in opera? That’s a little more rare. As Il Duo (Il Divo rejects desperate to win back Simon Cowell’s approval), Ron Long and Clint Hagel have returned to the festival with a hilarious and good-natured musical comedy. Ron is the straight man, Clint the over-enthusiastic younger partner with an over-affection for Elvis. They mix Broadway, light operetta and pop songs and parodies with infectious humour, all backed by a beautiful piano. It’s an extremely enjoyable hour appropriate for all ages. —Robin Collum

What an awesome show! If you have appreciation for different type of music, you will hear them all in one show and check out these smarts. The comic between them will make your cheeks hurt. Mine did 🙂 It’s a must-see!

I really liked this show, a comedy that makes you laugh and brings you good moments of joy. It started well but slowed than a bit by the the middle.
what I liked about it was that as an audience you feel yourself as a part of the show.
    Good Job Ron and Clint

Clever, funny, original, cute, surprising, powerful, local talented singers showcasing a style you don’t often see (operetta). Real people having real fun from the heart! It was so nice to have a chance to meet them personally in the hallway after the show. Bravo!

We laughed for the whole hour. It was an excellent act for our first time Fringer (11 yr old granddaughter) to attend. Great comedy, great singers and great atmosphere. If Il Duo mounts a new production for next year – we’ll be there and bring more family and friends. I am amazed that I have not seen a review in the Edmonton Journal. This deserves 4 and a half stars.
