Mike & Chantelle Delamont: Maybe Baby

Review

Marriage is a tough gig. Procreation, evidently for some couples - more so. Mike and Chantelle Delamont’s Fringe play Maybe Baby give us an intimate look at a couple’s struggle with the latter, as their continuous attempts to have a child have thus far bore no fruit. The Delamont duo’s infertility struggle is well documented through the course of an hour, with humourful and rather personal dialogue ranging from Mike’s mighty sperm count, to the clockwork-like schedule the couple utilize in hopes of baring children. The couple’s chemistry is a high point throughout the play, as these seasoned Fringe festival veterans riff on each other seamlessly and with loving effort. This chemistry the two presents the audience with a very personal and intimate look to an otherwise personal story. Mike and Chantelle’s love for each other and their craft is presented in staggering abundance, and though the story itself is a bit of a slow burn, fringers looking for a true to life tale would be best to keep this one on their play watching itinerary. - Levi Gogerla

Wow, this one blew us away, an honest real-life account of one couple’s struggle to conceive. The love between the performers was clear for all to see, and there were real tears all around as well as funny moments. Recommended.
