Mormonic! A Latter Day Musical

Review

Who better to enlighten us about Native American diversity, feminism, and sexuality than the Church of Mormon? Enter Sister Pratt (Jaimi Reese), Sister Olsen (Amanda Neufeld), and Brother Bradshaw (David Belland). Through divine “special techniques” such as humming hymns and writing Mormon novel reviews, summon the light to repress their darkest secret—their individual doubt. Sister Pratt, the remorseful hypersexual, steals the stage. Literally. She runs over the secretly skeptical Sister Olsen time and time again, while closeted Brother Bradshaw is continually and symbolically ignored. Reese and Olsen’s chemistry on stage is intentionally uncomfortable, and cringe-inducing at times. Together the two haplessly try to demonstrate why the Church of Mormon is “better than McDonalds,” with the aid of puppets, paced out musical dance numbers and a climatic striptease. The denouement comes in the form of a two-minute ditty titled “Fuck It,” brilliantly delivered by Neufeld. Though at times the delivery is chaotic, Mormonic! A Latter Day Musical does a decent job of delivering subtle skepticism at the Mormon Church. The ending feels rushed, but does the job at providing catharsis. And, although the loudest laughs repeatedly come from the stage, Mormonic! will not fail to entertain you. Reviewed by Josh Winfield.

A great and really funny play. Hillarious actually! The acting was superb and the singing was great. This is an original work of by the actors themselves including music! Well worth seeing if you want to laugh.
