NME Fringe Players

Review

The opening night of New Music Edmonton’s (NME) series of adventurous one-off performances was also the Fringe debut for the Good Information Collective, a group of young Edmonton jazz musicians. They were tasked with conveying NME’s theme this year: “the sound of words in a world of sound.” Using oblique strategies—randomly-generated text prompts that are then interpreted into brief performance—the experimental show captures the Fringe spirit, providing a cacophony of jarring soundscapes or a blending of disparate sounds to form a singular melody, exploding into a madness of music that’s at once exciting and messy, uneasy and toe-tappingly catchy. NME couldn’t have picked a better troupe to tease they kinds of experimental presentations they’ve brought to this year’s Fringe. -Ramin Ostad

We were there for the first night and had a great time. Freeform and experimental, it was a unique experience. We would come again!
