Onions and Garlic

Review

Onions and Garlic is a fairly whimsical romp of a fairytale adventure that will have the little ones clapping along with energy and excitement. For those fringe goers with children in tow, Onions and Garlic provides an engaging family-friendly affair that at times is reminiscent of a Dr. Seuss musical or Robert Munch short story. Onions and Garlic offers festival attendees engaging song craft and audience participation—that usually hit the mark—reimagining old Jewish folktales for the entire family to enjoy. Celia Taylor, Dave Clarke, and Paula Simons weave a heartfelt fable paying homage to classics like The Wizard of Oz. Audience members will be captivated by choreographed dances, and piano backed hearty humour that only occasionally stutters as it borrows from its source material. Reviewed by Levi Gogerla.
