Princess & the City

Review

Glitter, keyboards, and butt pasties galore! Princess and the City follows the story of a young woman’s journey from the small town of Ponoka to the big city of Edmonton—all told through the magic of burlesque and live music. Written and performed by Brittany Graling, Jenesse Graling, and LeTabby Lexington, featuring additional performances by Holly Von Sinn and Arabella Allure, the show is a must see for fans of burlesque. The Graling sisters have strong chemistry on stage while they narrate the story and provide musical accompaniment for the dancers. Their choice of music is spot on, starting with an Edmonton-based rendition of don’t stop believing ("Strangers waiting, up and down Gateway Boulevard") and continue on through renditions of various famous pop songs including “Shoop” by Salt-N-Pepa and “Born This Way” by Lady Gaga. The dancing is steamy and sensual, and the performers really played to the audience—who loved every minute of it. As an added bonus, the venue serves liquor, and the bar is right next to the stage so you can refill your drink without missing any part of the show. Reviewed by Alex Sorochan.
