Stephanie Morin-Robert Performance Society: Bushel And Peck

Review

What did I just see? Stephanie Morin-Robert Performance Society Presents Bushel and Peck is a left-field comedy anchored on Bushel (played with physical mastery by Alastair Knowles) reading of a list of rules about how to present and perform theatre which, as they are read, are bizarrely enacted in literal, surprising and altogether strange ways demonstrating that with intense skill and imagination, you can make and break rules simultaneously. This show relies on sight, sound and body tricks that are unlike anything I've seen at the Edmonton Fringe Festival. With use of simple objects like balloons, a wooden board, a microphone, a light, and collared white shirts, these two performers created magic onstage. It's rare to see two performers who are more dedicated and certainly more fearless. The physicality at play was unconventional but at times, beautiful to watch. - Miya Abe
