The Ballad Of Frank Allen

Review

The Ballad of Frank Allen is a musical comedy routine with a a plot that's absurd, illogical, and ultimately a bit unrewarding. However, it does succeed in providing a comfortable platform for the many catchy songs and hilarious one-liners that give this show its edge. Those looking to immerse themselves in a rich and meaningful story should turn their attention elsewhere, but if you’re in the mood for a good laugh and the opportunity to sing along with a crowd, then you could hardly do better. Saw this on a whim and loved it, lots of fun, great music and very funny and well-crafted. Best line “the writer thought it would be funny for everyone to see your tiny hairy chest, like a hipster care bear”

    Five stars

brilliant performances uplift a wacky premise and the result is then polished to a mirror sheen
the few ‘cheap laughs’ moments, lack of substance and bubble-burst of an ending are more than balanced by its style and sheer fun
    5/5
the audience didn’t stomp along to one of the songs, and I feel mixed because of it
