The Lion, the Bitch, and the Wardrobe

Review

Tackling mental health issues in a comedy show is never easy, but Sharon Mahoney presents a frank and humorous discussion about her battle with anxiety, which she has named, “the lion”. This harrowing tale, however, is interspersed with performances of Mahoney portraying a variety of other characters, ranging from a 100-year-old version of herself to the embodiment of a stereotypical Canadian. While all of these characters were entertaining individually, they appeared out of place and unrelated to the show’s larger theme. Mahoney deserves to be commended for her work towards reducing the stigma around mental illness, but the show would benefit from a more focused performance. By Lara Damabi
