The War of 1812

Review

It’s not hard to find Canadians of all ages who are cynical, if not apathetic, towards the merits of Canadian history. This show scoffs at that, placing us in a time-traveling birch bark canoe steered by Pierre Burton down the river of history to one of Canada’s finest hours. With impeccable comedic timing, puerile improvisations, and hilariously exaggerated accents, this four-man troupe speeds through Canada’s turf war with America in a way that’s both informative and hilarious, while also remembering to honour the many indigenous people who fought alongside the British to protect Canadian sovereignty. Acclaimed writers Wes Borg and Paul Mather. hysterical recreation of one of Canada’s greatest military victories is a definite highlight of this year’s fringe and should absolutely not be missed. -Ramin Ostad

A good laugh on a Friday night – we learned stuff about history and had fun too. We appreciated the inclusion of the First Nations in the story. The cast seemed a little disorganized at times, but they did a great job and looked like they were having great fun. Great accents, props and costumes, even if sometimes things got a little silly!
