Thunderprov

Review

Improv is the doodle sketch of theatre, a domain where things like coffee holders and triple-A batteries just happen to appear in back pockets at narratively opportune moments, laughter sometimes feels generated from a laugh track, and seeking deep meaning may feel like staring at a Rorschach test. The performers from Sorry, Not Sorry improv, who have several shows this year, call their sketch-but-with-an-overarching-narrative for Thunderprov. It’s entertaining and capable stuff. On opening night, the audience suggestion for “bootlegger” became a drama about a jockey son’s would-be-lucky leather boots, as he tries to live up to his father’s dreams. A couple of unrelated sketches about squash season were well-placed. If you’re game for an hour of silliness and a few guaranteed laughs, check it out. Reviewed by Jay Smith.
