Tragedy: A Tragedy

Review

The sun has set over the neighbourhoods, government buildings and American backyards everywhere.  The setting is intense and ominous. Frontline news has their best four-person team on the way. Their report will be absurd and hilarious. The team, anchored by grizzled veteran Frank “in the studio,” struggle verbosely to fill the air with an accurate and entertaining report on whether or not the sun will ever rise again. Will Eno's dead-on parody of the foolishness of the news cycle, paired with social commentary on the absurdity of the human condition, allows the audience to relax and laugh themselves into a stupor.  "It's the worst world in the world here tonight," announces Frank. "Is the sense of tragedy palpable?” he prompts. "Yes, you can almost feel it," replies John “in the field”, as the ‘journalists’ empty a barrage of words to describe the emptiness that surrounds them. Go see this play! With strong performances from the cast and smart writing from Will Eno, you’ll be pleasantly entertained by this enthralling ‘news’ report. —Terris Glab
