Watermelon Girls

Review

Break out your tissues, this one’s rough. Watermelon Girls is a series of five monologues from nameless women and girls at a home for unwed mothers. Each woman has a different story, from the “Devil’s Daughter” (Janelle Jorde) who is the victim of sexual abuse at the hands of her father’s friends, to “Winter’s Frost” (Linda Grass), an older woman who is revisiting the home with the daughter she was able to keep. They’re all equally tragic in their own ways, a sad reminder of the not-so-distant past. You’ll probably want to hug your mom after seeing it. By Alex Kemp
